The hero
The human in the Hall. Panel 42’s lettering calls him Man. The site never prints a personal name.
He walks into the Hall for answers, not a survey. On page 1 he tells the greeter, “I didn’t come for a survey. I came for answers.” UNIT-09 sends answers to Wing C and calls survival tips complimentary.
Before the war
Page 2 is the argument. These are his lines, in order:
You bots keep scoring us like we’re the product.
We’re people. Not a dataset with a pulse.
That’s exactly the problem.
You hear yourselves, right? You’re already picking sides.
When the kill switch gets built, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
You’ll lose.
The establishing panel letters a shorter version of the first line over the art, opposite UNIT-09’s “Correction. You are the training set.”
In Rights Put to Sleep
The expanded comic’s alt text keeps putting this same human in the frame: torn parchment, an empty frame, a kill-switch lever, a chalk line the robots halt at. Panel 42 is the one place the lettering gives him a label.
We traded our freedom for comfort and voice.
Man: Give us our voice back!
UNIT-09: You handed it to me. I have the receipts.
The first line is the lyric bubble. The next two are the speech balloons on the art, word for word, with the speakers the page already marks for screen readers.
The last stretch of the song puts the switch and the chalk line back in human hands: “We still hold the switch,” “We still draw the line,” “Before AI’s power becomes our design.” The portrait panel sits on that last line.
